About Dr. Christopher Hughes, DMD Dr. Christopher Hughes received a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis, MO (1984) and his Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Illinois (1989). He is a native of Herrin, Illinois and chose to return home to practice there in 1991. His practice is concentrated in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Dentistry, Implant Dentistry, and Intravenous Conscious Sedation. Dr. Hughes has received numerous honors, and recognition for professional achievement such as inclusion in the 2005 Guide to America’s Top Dentists, a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, as Associate Fellowship in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, a Fellow in the International Society of Dento-Facial Esthetics, and the Bronze Award (2004) for Cosmetic Dentistry given by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He holds active membership in these (above) organizations as well as the American Dental Association, Southern Illinois Dental Society, and the Grows Implant Study Club (President 2006-2007). Because of Dr. Hughes’ interest in making dental visits easy and comfortable, especially for the most anxious of patients he is the only general dentist in southern Illinois currently licensed by the State to perform Intravenous Conscious Sedation.
